Women's Campaign End Of Term Bulletin, Mich 2010
Hi all,
I hope you have all had a great couple of months here in Cambridge and are gearing up for the end of term tomorrow. But, just before everyone starts drifting off to the four corners of the earth, take a look at the bellow and check out what is happening in the world of feminism now and at the start of next term.
For those of you that are expecting to suffer some form of withdrawal symptoms without the prospect of such events over the break, don't forget to look at our website for constant updates (http://www.womens.cusu.cam. ac.uk/) and to email me with any ideas you have for the Women's Campaign and its events next term or if you would like to be involved in our management or activities in any way.

1. Occupation Workshop "Institutional Sexism and How to Fight it" TODAY
Come along to the Old Schools Combination Room today at 11:30 and learn key skills in fighting institutional sexism from within the cultural system.
2. Feminist Philosophy Reading Group TODAY
The Feminist Philosophy Reading group will be meeting tomorrow, Dec. 1 at 8pm at the Cafe Project (22 Jesus Lane). They will be discussing Nancy Fraser's article 'Feminism, Capitalism and the Cunning of History'. This will be the last meeting this year, starting up again in January (date to be announced). All welcome.
3. Gender Agenda - Call for Submissions
Gender Agenda - www.gender-agenda.org.uk - is the Women's Campaign's
official magazine and a collaborative website on gender issues in Cambridge
and beyond. It is a space for dialogue, debate and discussion on feminism,
sexuality, gender and more. For its first printed issue of this academic
year, which will be released at the beginning of February, we are calling
for submissions from all angles and all approaches to questions of gender:
- Articles or opinion pieces on cultural, political, social representations
of gender;
- Reviews of films, books or any other work of art;
- Artistic pieces; poems, short stories, cartoons, photos (black and white)
The print deadline for submissions is JANUARY 16th, 2010, but online
submission before this date is encouraged. 900 word limit. You can either
submit your work online by signing up to www.gender-agenda.org.uk, or email
it to cmb88@cam.ac.uk or ellyrobson@googlemail.com. Whether or not your
submission is selected for the printed issue of Gender Agenda, it will be
published on the website.
4. Cambridge University Investment Club Women's Training Day 2/12/10
Cambridge University Investment Club will be holding a special Women Graduating in 2013 event on Thursday 2nd December. A selected group of women will travel to London for a day of networking, skills sessions and seminars from 3 of the top investment banks (confirmed: UBS, Credit Suisse and TBC). The day will proove invaluable to anyone considering entering the industry and is a fantastic opportunity to learn more about opportunities available and get a female perspective on a male dominated industry.
The trip will last all day and is free of charge (food will also be provided). Please apply by sending your CV to cuic.events@gmail.com
5. A Q & A event on Women in Politics 4/12/10
Our guest speakers are;
Anne Campbell Labour MP for Cambridge (1992-2005) and former Chair of the
Fabian Society(2008).
Ellie Reeves Former Chair of Labour Students (2002) and current member of
the Labour Party's National Executive Committee.
Katie Curtis Former NUS Block of 12 and National Women's Officer at the Women's Campaign Conference, Labour Eastern Region European candidate (2009) and National Policy Forum representative.
This will be a great chance to hear about the experiences of our speakers but also to engage in a debate about the lack of female representation in politics.

6. Cambridge "Women in Philosophy" Group 8/12/10
The Cambridge Women in Philosophy Group invite you to an informal discussion a week
from today, at 3:30pm. Tea and cakes will be provided, and it will be at Christ's College (room to be announced).
If you are interested in attending, or if you feel you cannot attend but are interested in the group in general, please RSVP to an 328@cam.ac.uk.
7. Charity Ceilidh in the Guildhall in aid of Whitworth House 21/1/11
THE Cambridge event of the New Year is now open for booking! Get 2011 and the Lent Term off to a roaring start with a ceilidh in the Guildhall, one of the biggest and best venues in town. The fabulous Cambridge University Ceilidh Band will be providing the music (and calling the steps!); the lovely folk from the Devonshire Arms are running the bar (featuring award-winning beer from Cambridge's own Milton Brewery), and there's even a hot supper included in the ticket price. All this, and you get to support a very worthwhile local charity - what are you waiting for?! There are 250 tickets available, so get your friends together and come in a crowd!
Time- 7:30-11:30pm
Place- The Cambridge Guildhall, Market Square
Price- Tickets are £10, which includes a light supper and many hours of dancing - bargain!

The ceilidh is in aid of the Friends of Whitworth House. Whitworth House is a hostel in Cambridge which provides supported accommodation for young women who have been homeless, helping them to rebuild their lives. In 2011 the Friends of Whitworth House are aiming to raise a massive £100,000 to build an extension to the House, so more young women can find a safe haven there.
